Mira Lesmana is one of the most influential figures in modern Indonesian cinema. Born in Jakarta on August 8, 1964, Mira comes from an artistic family. Her father is legendary jazz musician Jack Lesmana, and her mother, Nien Lesmana, is a singer. She is also the sister of the famous jazz pianist Indra Lesmana. Her strong family background in the arts shaped her into a person who has a high sensitivity to the world of creativity from an early age. Mira studied at the Jakarta Institute of Arts and then continued her film studies in Australia. She once wanted to be a scientist or detective, but her love for movies - fueled by childhood shows such as Star Wars-leading her to a world that she would change forever.
Mira's career in film began when she produced various short films and television projects, before finally establishing her own production house. Miles Films in 1995 with his best friend and constant collaborator, director Riri Riza. Their feature-length movie debut, Kuldesak (1999), became an important stepping stone that marked a new spirit of independent cinema in Indonesia. However, Mira Lesmana's name really shot into the mainstream with the musical children's film Sherina's Adventure (2000), which became a cultural phenomenon and revived the passion for national cinema, which was in the midst of a slump at the time.



Two years later, Mira made history by producing What's With Love? (2002), a teen film that was not only a commercial success, but also became a generational icon and marked the beginning of the rise of modern Indonesian film. After that, he continued to produce high-quality films such as Gie (2005), Laskar Pelangi (2008), The Dreamer (2009), Jungle School (2013), and Gold Stick Swordsman (2014). Movie Laskar Pelangiadapted from the novel by Andrea Hirata, became one of the highest grossing Indonesian films of all time and was screened at various international festivals including the Berlinale.
As a producer, Mira Lesmana is known not only for her expertise in building strong and relevant stories, but also for experimenting with unconventional genres and production approaches. She has produced several films with deep social and political themes, and dared to raise issues that are rarely touched by other filmmakers. For example, through Athirah (2016), she presented a portrait of Bugis women in the patriarchal era, which went on to win various national awards including the Citra Cup.
